The network announced late Tuesday afternoon that it has renewed “Chicago Fire,” “Chicago Med,” and “Chicago PD.” This means that in 2019-2020, for each of the dramas from producer Dick Wolf, “Fire” will receive an eighth season, “Med” will receive a fifth, and “PD” will receive a seventh.

This news comes after the first season that NBC began airing the Windy City-set dramas together, which has led to increased viewership in all three. “Chicago Fire” and “Chicago PD” have regularly been working with an average of a 2.1 rating in adults 18-49, with “Chicago Med” lagging just a bit behind at 2.0. Together, each of the three shows have aired nearly 350 episodes.

“We remain in awe of the job Dick Wolf, our producers, casts and crews do in creating some of the most compelling television today,” said Lisa Katz and Tracey Pakosta, co-presidents of scripted programming at NBC Entertainment. “The ‘Chicago’ franchise is a lynchpin of our schedule and we’re thrilled that audiences have embraced our Wednesdays with such incredible passion for these shows and characters.”

With this news, it is still unknown whether or not fellow Wolf-produced series “Law & Order: SVU” will be renewed for a twenty-first season. The “Chicago” shows will be joining a host of others on NBC which have secured renewal, however, including “The Good Place,” “New Amsterdam,” and “Will & Grace.”
