Announced today during the TCAs summer press tour, FX has handed out a tenth season renewal to “American Horror Story,” one of its most popular titles. The news comes as “American Horror Story” continues production on its next, eighth season. FX had already renewed the series through season 9, but now, it looks like the network wants to keep the series going even further into the future than had previously been thought.

This early renewal also comes in light of creator Ryan Murphy’s decision to leave 20th Century Fox and FX for a new deal with Netflix earlier this year, casting doubt in many viewers’ minds about the future of the Murphy-created and produced FX titles. Fortunately, this renewal makes it seem as though many of Murphy’s titles – which includes “American Horror Story,” the recently-renewed “Pose,” “American Crime Story,” and “Feud” – could continue on long after his transition to the streaming service is complete.

With “Cult” its most recent season – “American Horror Story” averaged a 1.1 live + same day rating in the adults 18-49 demographic last year with 2.22 million viewers. While that was down from the 1.6 average of its previous season, the series still consistently ranks as FX’s most-watched and highest-rated show currently on the air.

The upcoming eighth season of “American Horror Story” – titled “Apocalypse” – will reportedly be a crossover between the show’s previous “Murder House” and “Coven” seasons. Recurring cast members Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, and Kathy Bates are all set to return in the new season. It is set to premiere on September 12.
