Announced today by the network, production on the 10-episode second season is reportedly set to begin soon, and will be shot entirely on location in states like Utah and Montana. The renewal comes a little less than one month ahead of its first season finale, which is set to air on the network on August 22.

Created by Sheridan (“Hell or High Water,” “Sicario”), “Yellowstone” focuses on the lives of the Dutton family, who control the largest contiguous cattle ranch in the United States, as they struggle to maintain their borders, under threat by an expanding town, an Indian reservation, and America’s first national park. It features Kevin Costner in his first recurring TV series role, alongside Gil Birmingham, Luke Grimes, Kelly Reilly, Danny Huston, Wes Bentley, Cole Hauser, Kelsey Asbille, and more.

Throughout its first season, “Yellowstone” has been averaging a consistent 0.4 live + same day rating in the adults 18-49 demographic, with 2.36 average million viewers, making it the Paramount Network’s highest-rated original series to date, since it rebranded from Spike TV back in January.

The series has been performing even better in delayed viewing, with its premiere increasing double from its original L+SD numbers (0.4, 2.83 million viewers) to a 0.9 with 5.31 million viewers in the L+7 ratings. It is currently cable’s most-watched series behind “The Walking Dead.”
