The show will air the remainder of its episodes in the summer but won’t return for a fourth season in 2018-19.

Executive producer Michael Seitzman shared the news of “Code Black’s” cancellation on Twitter Thursday, writing, “It’s been a true joy to make this show and watch your response every week. Thank you for all of your passion. Truly, our best episodes have yet to air. We hope you’ll watch and enjoy them.”

In a separate tweet, Seitzman writes the show’s team wrote the final episode as a series finale in anticipation of the show ending this season.

“Code Black” was a bubble show in 2016-17 but made the cut for CBS this season. It returned April 25 to modest ratings — the four episodes that have aired thus far are averaging a 0.7 rating among adults 18-49 and 5.45 million viewers.

Episodes 1 and 2 improved to an average of 1.2 in the 18-49 demo and 8.38 million viewers with a week of delayed viewing; Live +7 ratings for the most recent episodes aren’t available yet.

“Code Black” becomes the 66th series canceled in 2017-18.
