FOX has picked up its first-year drama “The Resident” for a second run in 2018-19, meaning the network has renewed its entire rookie class of dramas

The network announced the renewal Monday, a week before it unveils a schedule for next season to advertisers.

“[Executive producers] Amy [Holden Jones], Todd [Harthan] and all the producers on ‘The Resident’ set out to create a medical show that viewers haven’t seen before — to peel back the curtain and reveal the truth of what happens, both good and bad, behind the scenes at hospitals across the country. Clearly, they’ve succeeded,” FOX Entertainment president Michael Thorn says in a statement.

“The Resident” joins fellow FOX rookies “9-1-1,” “The Gifted” and “The Orville” on the schedule for next season. This marks the first time in at least a decade (which is as far back as TV by the Numbers has tracked such things) the network has renewed all of its first-year dramas. Veterans “Empire” and “The Simpsons” have also been renewed, with more announcements likely in the next few days.

“The Resident” is averaging a 1.0 rating among adults 18-49 and 4.73 million viewers the night it airs; its 18-49 numbers are on par with those of “The Gifted” and “The Orville.” It improves to 1.8 and 7.68 million with a week of delayed viewing.
