FOX has (entirely unsurprisingly) picked up “Empire” for a fifth season in 2018-19

The network made the announcement Wednesday, three weeks ahead of “Empire’s” season finale and 12 days before FOX announces its schedule for next season.

In same-day ratings, “Empire” is FOX’s top show among adults 18-49, averaging a 1.9 rating along with 5.79 million total viewers. A week of delayed viewing bumps the show up to 2.9 in the 18-49 demographic (second on FOX to the 3.0 for “9-1-1”) and 8.29 million.

FOX says the show delivers 11.3 million multiplatform viewers per episode, No. 2 on the network behind “9-1-1’s” 14.8 million.

In both same-day and Live +7 ratings, “Empire” ranks in the top 10 shows on network TV this season, a mark it’s reached in all four of its seasons to date.

The show is the fifth series FOX has renewed for 2018-19, joining “9-1-1,” “The Gifted,” “The Orville” and “The Simpsons.” The network is also adding “Thursday Night Football” to its lineup for the fall.
