“Here and Now” has officially been canceled after just one season, the network announced Wednesday. Created by Alan Ball, the series followed the lives of the Bayer-Boatwrights, a multi-racial family made up of husband, wife, their three adopted children from Liberia, Vietnam and Colombia and one biological child, who find their bonds tested when one of the children begins seeing things which the rest cannot.

The series starred Holly Hunter, Tim Robbins, Daniel Zovatto, Jerrika Hinton, Raymond Lee, Sosie Bacon and Peter Macdissi.

The news of the show’s cancellation comes just a little over a week after it wrapped up its first season on the network, following its initial premiere back in February. In a statement made to TheWrap, HBO commented on the show’s cancellation with the following:

“After careful consideration we have decided not to move forward with a second season of ‘Here and Now.’ We thank Alan for his dedication to innovative storytelling, and we look forward to his next endeavor.”

The show’s cancellation doesn’t come as much of a surprise, as it premiered to both lackluster viewership numbers and even less favorable reviews from critics. Despite Ball’s latest foray into the television format, following the success of shows like “True Blood” and “Six Feet Under,” “Here and Now” only raked in 541,000 same-day viewers with its premiere, and never made much noise after that. It garnered a 0.1 average rating in the adults 18-49 demographic and 378,000 viewers for its whole first season.
