FX has given the green light to a new series from Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, this one set in 1980s New York

“Pose” will examine the rise — and intersection — of “Wall Street”-era wealth and luxury, the downtown arts scene and the world of ball culture. The series will also have the largest number of transgender actors in regular roles of any series to date and also the largest recurring cast of LGBTQ actors.

“Along with being a dance musical and an affirming look at American life in the 1980s, I’m so proud that ‘Pose’ and FX have made history right from the beginning by featuring the most trans series regular actors ever in an American television production,” Murphy says in a statement. “Additionally, the first season ‘Pose’ will feature 50-plus LGBTQ characters.”

Murphy, Falchuk and Steven Canals co-created the series. It stars “American Horror Story” veterans Kate Mara and Evan Peters as a New Jersey couple who get drawn into New York’s go-go mindset circa 1986. James Van Der Beek plays Peters’ boss, a “financial kingpin.”

The cast also included Tony winner Billy Porter, Ryan Jamall Swain, Dyllon Burnside and transgender actors Indya Moore (pictured at the top of the post), MJ Rodriguez, Dominique Jackson, Hailie Sahar and Anjelica Ross.

“Orphan Black” star Tatiana Maslany filmed the pilot episode but has now parted ways with the show. Her role, which was reconceived somewhat during shooting, will be recast.

FX has ordered eight episodes of “Pose.” It’s scheduled to go into production in February and premiere in summer 2018.
