NBC has officially punched the clock for the last time with “The Night Shift”

After airing for four seasons on the network, NBC has decided to cancel the veteran series. Created by Jeff Judah and Gabe Sachs, “The Night Shift” was a medical drama focusing on a group of doctors from the Army who return to medical work during the night shift at a San Antonio hospital. The series starred Eoin Macken, Jill Flint, Brendan Fehr, Robert Bailey Jr., JR Lemon, and more.

“We want to thank our amazing creators and executive producers, Gabe Sachs and Jeff Judah, for their dedication and stellar work; a cast and crew that were second to none; and the city of Albuquerque, N.M., which graciously opened its arms to us,” NBC Entertainment president Jennifer Salke says in a statement. “For four seasons ‘The Night Shift’ gave audiences a window to heroic doctors, nurses and all-star medical workers who never hesitated to give their blood, sweat and time to help those most in need.”

This cancellation does continue to throw NBC’s summer schedule of original programming into flux, with “The Night Shift” being one of two exclusively summer shows that NBC has given the ax to recently. This news comes following the cancellation of “The Carmichael Show” earlier this summer.

The show’s cancellation does not come as much of a surprise, however, since “The Night Shift” has been experiencing a gradual ratings drop throughout its previous two seasons, despite being a surprise hit when it premiered back in 2014. Its final fourth season averaged around a 0.6 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic, as opposed to the 1.0 that it had averaged in its third.
