The announcement comes three weeks after the show aired its fourth-season finale. Star and executive producer Gabrielle Union, who plays the title character in the show, will (obviously) return for the wrap-up movie, but further casting is still up in the air, per Deadline, which broke the news of the show ending.

“‘Being Mary Jane’ has been a landmark series not only for BET, but for African American women around the world who saw themselves in Mary Jane, her family, friends and co-workers. From the captivating storytelling, to the richly complex characters, to the powerful issues tackled on the series, we remain immensely proud,” Connie Orlando, BET Networks’ head of programming, says in a statement. “We are grateful to the cast and creators of ‘Being Mary Jane,’ who have worked tirelessly to bring this world to vivid life over the past four seasons.”

“Being Mary Jane” stars Union as a TV news anchor and follows her personal and professional life. The cast also includes Lisa Vidal, Margaret Avery, Aaron D. Spears, Richard Brooks, B.J. Britt, Raven Goodwin and Richard Roundtree.

Mara Brock Akil created the show, who served as showrunner for the first three seasons. Erica Shelton Kodish took over as showrunner for Season 4, which concluded Sept. 19.

The show suffered a fairly sizable ratings decline in its fourth season, which ran for 20 episodes. It averaged a 0.4 rating among adults 18-49 and 860,000 viewers for initial airings, down from 0.7 and 1.64 million viewers for the 12-episode Season 3.

There’s no word yet on a specific date for the finale.
