NBC has picked up its second-year drama “Blindspot” for a third season, the network announced Wednesday afternoon

The pickup is a bit of a surprise, as the show’s ratings were at the lower end of NBC’s dramas for the season. It’s averaging a 1.0 rating among adults 18-49 and about 4.9 million viewers the night it airs this season. With a week of DVR and on-demand viewing, it rises to 1.8 and 7.44 million.

The show took a ratings hit this season after moving from the relatively safe harbor after “The Voice” on Mondays to the leadoff spot on Wednesdays. Its same-day numbers are down about 44 percent among adults 18-49, with DVR numbers actually off a little more (45.5 percent).

Still, NBC is sticking with the show through next season. It joins first-year drama “Taken” in being renewed this week; “This Is Us,” “The Good Place,” “Superstore” and “Shades of Blue” were previously picked up for next season. “The Voice” will also be back in the fall.
