Focusing on a retired MMA fighter forced to juggle keeping his gym running and keeping his family together, “Kingdom” premiered in 2014 on DirecTV to mostly positive reviews from critics. It was picked up fairly quickly after its series premiere for a second season, and a third season in July of last year. But it looks like the show’s upcoming, 10-episode third season will be its last.

Announced on EW, DirecTV and Endemol Shine Studios released a joint statement explaining why “Kingdom” will be coming to an end this year:

“We are looking forward to the upcoming third and final season of Kingdom, which premieres on May 31 at 8 p.m. on AT&T Audience Network. We expect season three to be a great one and appreciate the hard work and dedication from creator and showrunner Byron Balasco, as well as the entire cast and crew. We could not be more proud to have worked with all of them on such an amazing series.”

Starring Frank Grillo, Jonathan Tucker, Nick Jonas, Joanna Going, and more, “Kingdom” managed to acquire a fairly dedicated following of fans for itself over the past three years, which has stuck with the show consistently throughout its previous two seasons. It was the first original series created by Byron Balasco, following his work on previous titles like “Without a Trace,” “Huff,” “Flashforward,” “Detroit-1-8-7,” and more.

“Kingdom” will return for its third and final season on Wednesday, May 31.
