The show has been a solid ratings performer for FX and earned largely favorable reviews. Season 2 will likely premiere in 2018, though no date has been set. The show also airs on BBC One in the United Kingdom.

“‘Taboo’s’ first season was exceptional, and its success on FX is testament to the creative excellence and dedication of the producers, cast and crew,” FX’s Eric Schrier says in a statement. “We are proud to again join BBC One and Sonar Entertainment in partnering with Scott Free London and Hardy Son & Baker on the second season.”

Hardy co-created “Taboo” with his father, Chips Hardy, and Steven Knight (“Peaky Blinders”). The series centers on James Delaney (Hardy), who returns to 1814 London after more than a decade presumed dead and attempts to claim an inheritance from his late father, with treachery and enemies around seemingly every corner.

“Taboo” averaged a 0.4 rating among adults 18-49 and 1.33 million viewers the night it aired on FX. It often tripled its 18-49 rating with a week of DVR and on-demand viewing and more than doubled its total audience.

FX says the show averaged 5.8 million viewers per episode across all platforms, including on-air replays, delayed viewing and streaming.

“We are grateful and excited to continue our relationship with the BBC and FX in contributing towards British drama,” Hardy says. “Fantastic news.”
