Ten new episodes of the show will air in 2016.

The political drama series comes from Six Feet Under writer Craig Wright and Homeland producers Gideon Raff and Howard Gordon.

Tyrant stars Rayner as the exiled son for a former Middle-Eastern leader, who returns to his country Abbudin during a political power struggle.

FX president of original programming Eric Schrier said: "Tyrant's second season took the show to a new level thanks to the skill and direction of Howard, Chris and Glenn and their creative team, the exceptional cast and a story steeped in family, loyalty and intrigue.

"We look forward to the next chapter and a sensational third season of Tyrant."
