Falling Skies star Noah Wyle has claimed that the series will satisfy science fiction fans.

The actor told SFX that fans of the genre pay "closer attention to detail than just about any other [audience]".

Wyle said: "You have to make sure you don't dishonour that level of engagement. [We won't be] giving short shrift to the details, because that's what they are interested in."

Wyle also confirmed that the alien invasion drama's initial ten-part run will not rely heavily on series mythology.

"Rather than writing ourselves into a corner with a mythology that's real specific, we're teasing it out so we don't commit to anything we don't really mean at the moment," he explained. "It's taking shape as we are going."

The former ER star also confirmed that he originally accepted the role of resistance fighter Tom Mason at the behest of his 8-year-old son Owen.

"There was a particularly good crop [of pilots] that year with two or three I was intrigued by," he revealed. "In all honesty I put the choice to my 8-year old son. I said, 'Hey Owen, do you want see your dad be a policeman, or a lawyer or an alien fighter…' He said, 'Stop right there'."

Wyle previously claimed that Falling Skies, which also stars Moon Bloodgood and Will Patton, has the feel of a classic war movie.

The series launches on TNT in the US on June 19 and on FX in the UK on July 5.
