Here's a Wise One of the Nine Valleys

Killing Eve star Ayoola Smart has landed the part of Aviendha in The Wheel of Time season 2.

Amazon Prime Video's fantasy epic premiered in late-2021 to solid reviews, with Digital Spy hailing its portrayal of women in particular, so naturally it's full steam ahead on more episodes.

The Wrap confirmed Smart's casting following executive producer Rafe Judkins' announcement at JordanCon this week.

As for whether Aviendha's TV arc will retread Wheel of Time author Robert Jordan's work, we're none the wiser, but if it does, she'll be interacting pretty intimately with Josha Stradowski's Rand al'Thor.

Stradowski himself previously teased what's next for his character in season 2, sharing: "Rand always had a pretty good idea of who he was, and what he wanted in life, and that changed when Moiraine entered the village.

"He's now cut off from his roots. And this is the start of an identity shift. Becoming the Dragon Reborn means that you're the only person in the whole wide world who can save or destroy the world and that responsibility is insane. That weighs heavy and yes, I think Rand now has to go his own way to do what he needs to do. How do you do that? Who can help you with that? And it's the start of a very heavy, dark, dramatic journey."

Back in December, the likes of Guy Roberts (Hanna), Arnas Fedaravicius (The Last Kingdom) and Gregg Chillingirian (A Discovery of Witches) were all added to the cast too, bringing to life Uno Nomesta, Masema and Ingtar Shinowa.

The Wheel of Time season 1 is streaming now on Amazon Prime Video, with a second on the way.
