Announced today, SyFy has officially renewed the fantasy drama series for a fifth season, one day ahead of the show’s fourth season premiere. The fifth season will, once again, consist of 13 episodes.

“‘The Magicians’ raised the bar at Syfy and has gained momentum season after season, attracting a new audience to the channel. We are proud of this series as it continues to break the boundaries of storytelling,” said Bill McGoldrick, President of Scripted at NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment.

Additionally, Henry Alonso Myers will reportedly be joining the show’s co-showrunners, John McNamara and Sera Gamble, as creative heads of the series, for its fifth season.

“Henry has been with the show since minute one of season one. His talent, professionalism and love of all things magical has been instrumental to our success,” said McNamara and Gamble. “We couldn’t be happier to see him become co-showrunner. Also, he bakes the greatest bread this side of the Hudson River.”

Along with being one of SyFy’s longest-running series, “The Magicians” was the network’s highest-rated original title last year, with a 0.3 live + same day average rating and 710,000 average viewers.

Based on the novels by Lev Grossman, the series follows a group of students at a secretive academy, who discover that the magic they read about as children is more real, and more dangerous than they ever could have imagined. It stars Jason Ralph, Olivia Taylor Dudley, Stella Maeve, Hale Appleman, Arjun Gupta, Summer Bishil, and more.

“The Magicians” season 4 premiere airs tomorrow night, Jan. 23, on SyFy.
