After being canceled by its own network not just one time, but twice, it looks like the little time travel show that could is being given one last chance to close out its story

It has been announced today by NBC that “Timeless” will be returning for (what seems like) a final time later this year, with a holiday special, 2-part series finale. Stars Abigail Spencer, Matt Lanter, Malcolm Barrett, Goran Visnjic, Paterson Joseph, Claudia Doumit, and Sakina Jaffrey are all set to return for the finale special, which will apparently give “closure to the globetrotting series that has generated incredible viewer passion.”

“While we wish we could’ve made another dozen seasons of Timeless, this is the next best thing,” said co-creators Shawn Ryan and Eric Kripke. “We’re thrilled to take the lifeboat out for one last spin and bring closure to our story. The studio, network, cast and crew are all doing this for one reason only: the fans. Because they deserve it. Because the fans made this happen and we thank them for their passion, support and helicopters. So? You guys want to get Rufus back or what?”

“We’re excited to tell one final chapter to this incredible story,” said NBC Entertainment Co-President of Scripted Programming, Lisa Katz. “A huge thank you to all — our cast, crew, producers and partners at Sony — who have worked so very hard, and to the fans who kept us on our toes and made sure we did our very best week after week.”

The news of this mini-revival comes just a little over a month after NBC canceled “Timeless,” following the conclusion of its low-rated second season earlier this year. It was the second time the network had canceled the series, though, after pulling the plug on it back in May 2017, before subsequently reversing on that decision, in response to the vocal fan outcry over its initial cancellation.

Talks of a possible continuation or final wrap-up movie have been a possibility ever since the cancellation last month. Now, it looks like “Timeless” fans everywhere will get to ride with the series, at least, one more time.
