It looks like SyFy is ready to spend another year in Purgatory

“Wynonna Earp” has officially been renewed for a 10-episode fourth season on the network, set to premiere sometime in 2019. Created by Emily Andras, based on the IDW comic book of the same name by Beau Smith, the series follows the great-great granddaughter of Wyatt Earp, when she returns to her hometown of Purgatory and finds herself using her unique abilities to battle demons and other supernatural creatures, alongside her posse of dysfunctional allies.

Like several other shows this weekend too, SyFy decided to make the renewal announcement live during the show’s San Diego Comic-Con panel. It now joins both “Cloak and Dagger” and “The Man in the High Castle” as other titles to have received extra life at this year’s convention.

The “Wynonna Earp” renewal also comes just after it made its season 3 premiere on SyFy earlier this week. Andras commented on the announcement with the following:

“We are absolutely delighted that Wynonna Earp has been renewed for a fourth season. We are so grateful to Syfy for their relentless and ferocious support of the series and the ‘Earper’ fandom.”

The series has averaged a steady 0.1 live + same day rating with around 500-550,000 average viewers in its first 2 seasons. But while “Wynonna Earp” has never been much of a ratings hit or breakout for SyFy, it has accumulated one of the most dedicated fan followings of any show on TV right now, giving it a cult status and drawing comparisons to previous beloved genre shows like “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.”

The fan support has done wonders to keep the show going for 3 (now 4) full seasons, along with its modest production budget, profitable Netflix streaming deals, and behind-the-scenes commercials and ad negotiations. Now, it will get the chance to continue defying the odds for yet another year.
