The veteran sci-fi drama has officially been canceled this afternoon, after a 3-season-long run on the network. The series, created by Ryan J. Condal and Carlton Cuse (“Lost”), followed an LA-based family in the near-future who are forced into difficult situations, in order to survive in a world taken over by alien invaders.

Its ensemble included several notable TV stars including Josh Holloway and Sarah Wayne Callies, joined by Peter Jacobson, Tory Kittles, Alex Neustaedter, Isabella Crovetti, and more. The news of the show’s cancellation comes just a little less than a week before it is set to air its third season finale, which will act as a series finale now.

When it premiered on USA back in 2016, “Colony” quickly garnered a strong following for itself, but has been steadily losing viewers ever since. Its current third season has averaged a 0.2 live + same day rating with 672,000 viewers, around half of its first season’s 0.4 and 1.13 L+SD average. In Live +3 ratings, the slip has been even more drastic, falling from 2.2 million viewers to 1.3 million this season, giving it the lowest season average out of all of USA’s current drama series lineup.

The show’s cancellation also comes following its absence at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, where it had had a strong presence the previous 2 years.

The series finale of “Colony” will air on USA on Wednesday, July 25.
