Announced at San Diego Comic-Con today, Marvel and Freeform have renewed “Cloak and Dagger” for a 10-episode second season, set to premiere on the network sometime next year. The news comes just as the series is approaching the final 2 episodes of its freshman season.

Based on the comic book of the same name, the series follows Cloak (Aubrey Joseph) and Dagger (Olivia Holt), a pair of troubled teenagers who find themselves falling in love with each other, while at the same time, realizing that their newly awakened superpowers work even better when combined.

The show is created by Joe Pokaski and, in addition to Joseph and Holt, stars Gloria Reuben, J.D. Evermore, Miles Mussenden, Noëlle Renée Bercy, Andrea Roth, and more.

While “Cloak and Dagger” hasn’t received quite as much public attention as the Marvel Netflix series have, the superhero show has still acquired a strong audience for itself on Freeform. Throughout its first season, “Cloak and Dagger” has averaged a 0.2 live + same day rating in adults 18-49, and drew in 4.4 million viewers across all platforms, according to the new L+35 ratings, with its premiere earlier this summer.

In case that wasn’t enough, though, the show also scored Freeform’s highest-ever debut in male viewers 18-49, and has been cable’s no. 1 new summer show amongst the female 18-34 and 12-34 demographics. It has been generally well-received by critics up to this point, and will now, be able to continue carving out its unique place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for another year.
