“Lucifer” isn’t dead after all: After being canceled by FOX in May, the show has been given a new life on Netflix

The streaming service announced the pickup Friday. It’s the second show canceled by FOX this season to find a new home, after “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” landed at NBC.

Details on the fourth season, including an episode count and when it might air, are still to be determined.

“Lucifer” was left out at FOX in May as a result of middling ratings — 0.8 in adults 18-49 and 3.3 million viewers the night it aired (1.3 and 4.96 million after seven days) — that put it behind all of FOX’s first-year dramas and the network’s ongoing shift to what it hopes is broader-appeal programming (including “Thursday Night Football,” which takes away a night from entertainment shows).

Fans of the show — which ended on a cliffhanger — have campaigned heavily for another outlet to pick up “Lucifer” in the month since FOX canceled it. Producer Warner Bros. TV shopped the show around, and Netflix ended up winning the rights.

The deal also included a rejiggering of streaming rights, both in the United States (where prior seasons streamed on Hulu) and in some other countries (Amazon had rights in Germany and the U.K., for instance).
