ABC has canceled the first-year drama after just four weeks on the air and five total episodes. New episodes of “Match Game” will take over “Time After Time’s” Sunday timeslot starting April 2.

The show was based on a 1979 movie in which author H.G. Wells uses a time machine to chase Jack the Ripper to present-day San Francisco. Freddie Stroma played Wells in the ABC version, with Josh Bowman as the notorious killer; Genesis Rodriguez also starred.

“Time After Time” put up weak ratings in its brief run. The show’s two-hour premiere drew a 0.7 rating among adults 18-49, which proved to be its high point. The past two episodes drew 0.4s, and as a whole the show averaged a 0.5.

It’s among the lowest-rated shows on the Big 4 broadcast networks this season; only fellow ABC Sunday show “American Crime” and CBS’ Saturday drama “Ransom” (each 0.4) have lower numbers; FOX’s “Sleepy Hollow” also clocks in at 0.5, airing on Fridays.

“American Crime” is likely to finish out its season, as it’s owned by ABC’s sister studio and has critical acclaim and awards cachet to its credit. “Time After Time,” produced by Warner Bros. TV, got only lukewarm reviews upon its premiere.

“Time After Time” is the second show to be pulled from the schedule without getting to play out its initial order. It follows CBS’ “Doubt,” which lasted only two episodes in February. Fellow rookies “Conviction,” “Notorious” and “Pure Genius” did get to play out the string, but ABC and CBS have indicated they’re unlikely to return.
