‘The Librarians’ books a fourth season on TNT

TNT is keeping “The Librarians” on the job for another year, picking up a fourth season of the series.



The announcement came Tuesday, two days after the show wrapped up Season 3. The fourth season will debut later this year, likely in the same late-fall spot it has occupied since it began life as a weekly show.

The just-completed season of “The Librarians” averaged a 0.5 rating among adults 18-49 and 1.8 million viewers the night it aired. With a week of DVR and on-demand catchup, the show’s numbers typically rose to a 0.9 in the demographic and a little above 3 million viewers.

TNT says multi-platform viewing increased the show’s viewership to 5.4 million people per episode and also notes that its audience is six years younger than the average viewer of other TNT originals. That last statistic may be as important as any as the channel keeps working on a move away from its former crime-drama niche and into edgier, more serialized programming.

The core cast of Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Harlan Kim and John Larroquette is expected to return for Season 4. Noah Wyle, who starred in the TNT movies that kicked off the franchise, will continue his recurring role and remains an executive producer of the show.
