NBC has pulled the plug on its time-travel drama “Timeless” after a single season
The show was on the bubble after a modestly rated run in the fall and early winter, and the decision not to go ahead with Season 2 came late Wednesday.
“Timeless” averaged a 1.1 rating among adults 18-49 and 4.62 million viewers in initial airings this season. With a week of DVR and on-demand viewing the show improved to 2.1 and 7.97 million viewers.
Those numbers compare favorably to a pair of bubble shows NBC opted to renew: “Blindspot” (1.0/4.93 million same-day, 1.8/7.44 million Live +7) and “Taken” (1.0/5.3 million, 1.3/7 million).
“Taken” has the advantage of being produced in-house by Universal Television, with international co-producer Europa Corp. taking on some of the cost. “Blindspot” (Warner Bros.) and “Timeless” (Sony) come from outside studios, though NBC owned half of “Timeless.”
The show likely earned its bubble status by underperforming in the post-“Voice” time period on Monday nights. It was well below “Blindspot’s” 1.8 same-day average last season and retained only about half of its lead-in in the weeks it was paired with “The Voice.”
