Disney's new animated box office smash Frozen has now topped the US album chart.

The film's accompanying soundtrack has climbed to number one on the US Billboard 200 chart, after shifting 165,000 copies over the past week.

It has become the first soundtrack to hit the top spot since Les Miserables reached the peak in the same week last January.

What's more, it has become just the fourth soundtrack from an animated film to hit number one in the US since charts began in 1956, reports Billboard.

Previous animated film soundtrack chart-toppers include Jack Johnson's Curious George in 2006, and Disney's Pocahontas in 1995 and The Lion King back in 1994.

Frozen's total soundtrack sales in the US have so far hit 503,000 copies since its release on November 25.

Elsewhere, Beyoncé's self-titled album slips to two, with further sales of 130,000 copies over the past week.

Eminem's The Marshall Mathers LP 2 is at three, Katy Perry's Prism is at four and Lorde's Pure Heroine is at five.
