Happy Endings may move to the USA network if it is axed by ABC, reports suggest.

The sitcom - which has suffered from low ratings - could continue on cable if its original network declines to pick up a fourth season, according to Deadline.

Sony TV - the leading studio behind Happy Endings - is said to have reached out to both NBC and USA, with the latter showing considerable interest in a possible pick-up.

In a similar situation, Courteney Cox sitcom Cougar Town was dropped by ABC last year but was picked up by cable channel TBS, which recently renewed the show for a fifth season.

Happy Endings - which stars Elisha Cuthbert and Damon Wayans, Jr - is yet to be officially cancelled by ABC, but has been shifted to an unpopular Friday night slot and in January hit a series low of just 2.07 million viewers.

Back in January, ABC president Paul Lee insisted that no decision had been made on the future of Happy Endings, noting that the struggling comedy is "really well-written".
