'How I Met Your Mother' to air hour-long holiday special

How I Met Your Mother co-creator Craig Thomas has announced that the CBS sitcom will air a holiday special in December.



The hour-long episode will premiere on December 17.

Thomas posted on Twitter: "Not sure this is public knowledge yet, but December 17, #himym is doing its first ever HOUR-LONG holiday ep. Some really big crap happens!"

Back in October, How I Met Your Mother casted Seth Green, who will be reunited with his former Buffy co-star Alyson Hannigan, in an episode to air on December 10.

Final Destination 3 actress Chelan Simmons is also set to guest star on the show for two episodes.

How I Met Your Mother airs on Mondays at 8pm ET.
