The CBS sitcom - which airs on E4 in the UK - has been accused of using racial stereotypes.

However, Behrs (Caroline Channing) told Entertainment Weekly that the show's humour comes from "a place of truth".

"I'm such a fan of our writing staff," she said. "I've never once felt like anything has been out of [place] - even when it's a really dirty joke or something."

The actress added that the cast and crew of 2 Broke Girls "don't really pay attention" to the criticisms levelled at the show.

"People are always going to have a problem with something," reasoned Behrs. "Our show has a lot of heart and a lot of warmth and I wish people would recognise that as well."

2 Broke Girls was picked up for a second season in April, as part of an 18-show renewal by CBS.

The show's first season concluded last night in the US and continues on Thursdays at 9pm in the UK.
