NBC has reportedly cancelled freshman comedy Free Agents.

The series starred Hank Azaria and Kathryn Hahn as a pair of public relations executives who become attracted to one another.

While the pilot episode pulled in 6.12m viewers last month, the most recent instalment managed just 3.28m last night.

Free Agents was based on a UK comedy which aired on Channel 4 for a single six-part series in 2009.

NBC has also cancelled period drama The Playboy Club after just three episodes, again due to disappointing ratings.

However, the network has given full season orders to new comedies Whitney, starring Whitney Cummings, and Up All Night, featuring Christina Applegate, Will Arnett and Maya Rudolph.

Though no final decision has been made as to what will replace Free Agents in its Wednesday 8.30pm slot, reruns of Whitney are thought to be a strong possibility.
