TNT has axed its comedy-drama Men of a Certain Age after two seasons.

According to Entertainment Weekly, low ratings were the main factor in deciding not to renew the show, despite its critical acclaim.

"TNT has been proud to be part of Men of a Certain Age for two season," a statement from the network reads. "While the show has featured great storytelling and impeccable performances, the audience simply hasn't built to the point where we can continue the series.

"This was an extremely difficult decision for us," it added. "We wish Ray Romano, Mike Royce and the terrific cast and crew of Men of a Certain Age the very best and look forward to exploring new programming possibilities in the future."

Earlier this week, series star Andre Braugher landed his second Emmy Award nomination for his portrayal of Owen Thoreau Jr.

TNT is believed to have made the move in order to pave the way for its upcoming reboot of the popular eighties soap opera Dallas.

The second and final season of Men of a Certain Age concluded earlier this month.
