'Nurse Jackie' renewed, 'Tara' axed by Showtime

Showtime has announced that it has renewed dark comedy Nurse Jackie for a fourth season, while it has cancelled the comedy-drama United States of Tara.



According to various reports, the Toni Collette led comedy will not return once the show's third season concludes next month.

Collette has won several awards for her performance as a mother suffering from multiple personalities, including an Emmy Award in 2009 and a Golden Globe in 2010.

While United States of Tara has suffered from declining ratings since its successful launch in 2009, Nurse Jackie has continued to perform well for the network.

The series star Edie Falco herself won an Emmy Award last year for her role as troubled emergency room nurse Jackie Peyton.

The final episode of United States of Tara as well as the third season finale of Nurse Jackie are scheduled to air on June 20.
