Starz will not be proceeding with a second season of the raunchy comedy series, it announced Friday afternoon. The news was broken in the midst of the Television Critics Association summer press tour by Jeff Hirch, COO of the premium cable outlet, who said of the series: “It was a great show, it was a great experiment for us, but we have made the decision not to bring it back.”

“Now Apocalypse” followed the exploits of friends Ulysses (Avan Jogia), Carly (Kelli Berglund), Ford (Beau Mirchoff), and Severine (Roxane Mesquida) as they explored the world of love, sex, and fame in Los Angeles. In the midst of their debauchery, Ulysses becomes troubled by dreams of the end of the world, and finds himself unable to determine whether they are prophetic or drug-induced delusions. The series was created by Gregg Araki, who co-wrote each episode with Karley Sciortino of Viceland’s “Slutever.”

The series was never quite able to gain footing with critics or audiences. It premiered with a 0.04 rating in adults 18-49, drawing about 147,000 viewers, but this number tapered off across the season, resulting in an average 0.01 rating per episode. By this metric, it is not an incredible surprise that “Now Apocalypse” was not brought back for a second season.

Starz remains the home for a considerable lineup of shows nonetheless, with its roster including “Outlander,” “American Gods,” “The Girlfriend Experience,” “Sweetbitter,” “Vida,” The Spanish Princess,” and “The Rook.”
