The premium cable channel has announced that they have renewed the comedy series for a second season. This news comes just days after the show concluded its first season.

“Los Espookys” has been described by HBO as a series that “follows a group of friends who turn their love for horror into a peculiar business, providing horror to those who need it, in a dreamy Latin American country where the strange and eerie are just part of daily life.” The show stars Bernardo Velasco, Julio Torres, Cassandra Ciangherotti, Ana Fabrega, and Fred Armisen as the titular group, with Armisen, Fabrego, and Torres also serving as the series’ creators and writers. Lorne Michaels is an executive producer.

The survival of “Los Espookys” wasn’t exactly a sure thing. The series premiered with a 0.05 rating in adults 18-49, but gradually descended towards a 0.04 average, with its first season finale raking in a 0.03. Nonetheless, HBO appears to have faith in the critical attention the show has garnered, as well as the strength of its creators.

With its renewal, “Los Espookys” is the only show on HBO that consists primarily of Spanish dialogue, although the Italian of “My Brilliant Friend” prevents it from being the premium channel’s only non-English series. “Los Espookys” will be joining the ranks of other returning HBO shows including “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” “Ballers,” “High Maintenance,” “Barry,” “Divorce,” “Insecure,” and the final season of “Silicon Valley.”
