Announced this afternoon, the network has renewed its sophomore crime drama, “Good Girls,” for a third season. The news comes as the Christina Hendricks, Mae Whitman, and Retta-led title begins making its way into the back half of its second season.

Created by Jenna Bans, the series follows three suburban mothers (Hendricks, Whitman, and Retta) who suddenly find themselves in desperate circumstances and decide to stop playing it safe and risk everything to take their power back.

“We’re so excited to continue following the friendship and adventures of these three incredible women while also exploring relatable issues in both funny and surprising ways,” said Lisa Katz and Tracey Pakosta, Co-Presidents of Scripted at NBC Entertainment. “Congratulations to Jenna Bans, and our amazing writers, cast and crew who give these stories depth and humanity.”

The series has been a low performer in the live + same day ratings so far this season, with a 0.6 average rating among adults 18-49 and 2.41 million viewers. “Good Girls” has, however, posted some solid delayed viewing gains this year, with a 1.1 average adults 18-49 rating and 4.1 million viewers in the live +7 numbers, and on the digital front, has broken its series record for best seven-day non-linear viewership with each new episode this season, doubling its first season’s digital delivery.

So despite its lackluster L+SD results, it looks like the show’s solid performance in delayed viewing and on digital platforms, along with the international streaming deal NBC has in place with Netflix for the series, were still enough to guarantee “Good Girls” at least another year on the air.

With this renewal, “Good Girls” now joins “Will & Grace,” “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” “Superstore,” “The Good Place,” “The Blacklist,” “Law & Order: SVU,” “Chicago Med,” “Chicago Fire,” “Chicago P.D.,” and “New Amsterdam” on the list of NBC titles renewed for next season.
