Announced this afternoon, NBC has officially renewed the veteran comedy series for a fourth season. The news comes ahead of the show’s upcoming fall finale, which will air this Thursday night. It now joins “Will & Grace,” as the only other series confirmed to be coming back on the network next season.

An official episode count for the show’s fourth season has yet to be determined.

“Congratulations to Mike Schur and an exceptional cast and crew, all of whom collaborate to create a thoughtful, mind-bending and hysterical series unlike anything else on television,” said Tracey Pakosta and Lisa Katz, Co-Presidents of Scripted Programming at NBC Entertainment. “We can’t wait to see what unexpected stories the new season will bring.”

Created by Mike Schur, the series follows four people and their otherworldly frienemy, as they all struggle in the afterlife to define what it means to be good. It stars Kristen Bell, Ted Danson, William Jackson Harper, Jameela Jamil, D’Arcy Carden, Manny Jacinto, and more.

In its current third season, “The Good Place” has averaged a 0.9 live + same day rating among adults 18-49 with 2.83 million viewers, down from its second season’s 1.1 and 3.88 million viewer averages. But the series has been notably steady over the past several months, and remains one of NBC’s most critically acclaimed titles.

Now, with this announcement, the network has cemented “The Good Place’s” continued existence, for at least another year.
