HBO is sticking with two of its veteran comedies for another year

Announced this morning by the network, both “Ballers” and “Insecure” have been renewed for their respective fifth and fourth seasons. The news of which comes just as both series have reached about the halfway point of their current seasons.

Without a summer “Game of Thrones” lead-in around to boost their weekly numbers like they had last year, both shows have been slightly down from their previous overall season averages, but have still been performing fairly well for themselves. “Ballers” has been averaging a 0.4 live + same day rating so far this year, while “Insecure” has been averaging a 0.3 – both about even with how well their previous seasons had concluded last year.

Created by Stephen Levinson and starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, “Ballers” currently ranks as HBO’s highest-rated comedy. The series – which takes place in the ruthless and constantly evolving world of professional football – also stars John David Washington, Rob Corddry, Troy Garity, Omar Benson Miller, Donovan W. Carter, and more. The show’s current season featured both a shift in location to Los Angeles, and the addition of Russell Brand as a recurring star.

Created by and starring Issa Rae, “Insecure” follows the awkward experiences and racy tribulations of a modern-day African-American woman. The series just recently broke into the Emmy awards race earlier this year, and as such, makes this renewal hardly surprising.

“Ballers” and “Insecure” air every Sunday night on HBO.
