The network announced the news Sunday; the cast and crew found out Saturday night at the show’s season wrap party. The pickup is no surprise, as “Mom” is the No. 3 comedy on CBS among adults 18-49 and total viewers and tied for fifth among all broadcast comedies in the 18-49 demographic.

“‘Mom’ has been a linchpin comedy for us over the last several years,” CBS Entertainment president Kelly Kahl says in a statement. “It’s a fearless series that tackles provocative social issues with laughter and grace, and a large, loyal audience has followed. With gifted talents like Anna [Faris] and Allison [Janney] leading a great ensemble cast, and a production team headed by Chuck Lorre, Eddie Gorodetsky, Nick Bakay and Gemma Baker, this series just keeps getting better.”

In its fifth season, “Mom” is averaging a 1.5 rating among adults 18-49 and 8.95 million viewers the night it airs. It grows to 2.0 and 11.1 million viewers with a week of delayed viewing, and it’s one of just a few network series whose ratings have improved on the 2016-17 season.

“Mom” is the fifth scripted show CBS has renewed for 2018-19, joining “The Big Bang Theory,” “Young Sheldon,” “SWAT” and “SEAL Team.”
