ABC has wasted little time in picking up the revival of “Roseanne” for another season

The network on Friday picked up the show for an 11th season overall and second after the 21-year break between iterations of the show. It comes after “Roseanne” delivered the biggest premiere ratings for any series this season and the second-biggest adults 18-49 number of any scripted show, behind only the Super Bowl Sunday episode of “This Is Us.”

“We’re thrilled that America has welcomed the Conner family back into their homes,” ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey says in a statement. “The show is as fresh and relevant today as it was when it left the air 21 years ago. We can’t wait to see what the ‘Roseanne’ team has in store for next year.”

“Roseanne” premiered Tuesday to a 5.2 rating among adults 18-49 and 18.44 million viewers (more than the 16.6 million for its then-series finale in 1997). ABC says the premiere added another point to its 18-49 rating and 3.4 million viewers with a single day of delayed viewing.

The new season will run for 13 episodes, up from nine for the current one. There’s no word yet on whether it will be back in fall 2018 or sometime later next season.
