Indeed, Showtime has officially canceled “White Famous” after airing just one season, the network announced this afternoon. Created by Tom Kapinos, Buddy Lewis, and Chris Spencer and produced by Jamie Foxx, the series focused on Pharoah’s aspiring stand-up comedian as he tried to navigate through the tricky obstacles of becoming increasingly more famous and well-known throughout the world.

In addition to Pharoah, the series also starred Jacob Ming-Trent, Cleopatra Coleman, Lonnie Chavis, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Michael Rapaport, and more. Foxx himself even made a couple prominent guest appearances throughout its first season. The news comes just a couple of weeks after it finished its freshman run earlier this month.

Even though the cancellation does come fairly late, it doesn’t come as much of a surprise, unfortunately. The series was met with lukewarm to just mildly positive reviews when it premiered back in October, and didn’t ever receive the critical boost that some of these pay cable network shows can benefit from. In case that wasn’t enough, “White Famous” didn’t perform especially well in the ratings either, after the season raked in just an average 0.09 rating.

While “White Famous” will not live on for a second season on Showtime, the network was quick to renew its other freshman half-hour comedy, “SMILF,” exactly one month ago. So despite “White Famous” bringing some much-needed diversity to Showtime’s lineup of original programming, the network is still heading into the new year with a slightly different roster of shows than it previously had.
