‘The Mayor’ gets more scripts

ABC is giving “Kevin” a little more time complete his mission to rescue humanity.

The network gave an abbreviated back order to “Kevin (Probably) Saves the World,” picking up three more episodes of the show starring Jason Ritter. Fellow Tuesday-night show “The Mayor,” which stars Brandon Micheal Hall, got an order for three more scripts, though no additional episodes for now.

Deadline broke the news about the moves on both shows.

Both “The Mayor” and “Kevin” have earned their share of praise from critics, but neither one has found a wide audience in the first part of the season.

“The Mayor” is faring a little better in the key adults 18-49 demographic, averaging a 0.9 rating there. It draws 3.07 million total viewers the night it airs. It improves to 1.2 and just under 4 million viewers with three days of delayed viewing.

“Kevin,” meanwhile, draws a 0.8 same-day rating in the 18-49 demographic and a slightly larger total audience of 3.26 million. It rises to 1.1 and 4.54 million in the Live +3 charts.

The small pickup for “Kevin” and the script orders for “The Mayor” put the two shows in the middle ground among ABC’s freshman class this fall. “The Good Doctor,” the highest-rated new drama of the fall, got a quick full-season pickup. “Ten Days in the Valley,” the lowest-rated newcomer on the Big 4 networks, was booted from Sunday nights to play out the string on Saturdays starting in December.

ABC has yet to make a call on its other new fall series, “Inhumans.” The show ended its eight-episode run on Friday night.
