USA is done “Playing House”: The channel has canceled the comedy from creators-stars Jessica St. Clair and Lennon Parham after three seasons

“‘Playing House’ is not coming back for Season 4,” St. Clair says in a video she and Parham posted on Twitter.

“We had three beautiful seasons, and we just wanted to thank you guys,” Parham adds.

“You made it possible for us to tell the story we were always meant to tell,” St. Clair continues. “We love each of you.”

“USA Network and Universal Cable Productions want to thank Jessica, Lennon and the entire cast and crew of ‘Playing House’ for being amazing partners for three incredible, hilarious seasons,” USA and UCP say in a statement. “It was an honor and privilege to be part of this best friendship.”

Given the show’s tiny linear ratings and the fact that USA has moved away from producing original comedies, the cancellation doesn’t come as too much of a surprise. That it made it to three seasons in the first place is arguably a bigger surprise.

To do that, USA released the show on demand ahead of its premiere. That, along with branded spots St. Clair and Parham did, helped “Playing House” eke out a third-season pickup after Season 2, but it wasn’t enough this time around.

The show’s final season, which aired in one-hour blocks over four weeks in June and July, averaged 323,000 viewers and a 0.1 rating in adults 18-49 for its initial on-air run. That was down from 414,000 and 0.2 for its second season.
