The TV version of “Get Shorty” is getting a sequel — one that its home, Epix, hopes will be better received than “Be Cool”

Epix announced a Season 2 renewal for the show on Wednesday. The series is loosely based on Elmore Leonard’s novel of the same name, which also was adapted for a 1995 movie starring John Travolta.

“Get Shorty” stars Chris O’Dowd as Miles Daly, a Nevada hit man who comes to L.A. for a job but also has aspirations of breaking into the movie business. He teams up with a down-and-out movie producer (Ray Romano) to help him reach his goal.

“Epix is proud to be the home of ‘Get Shorty,’ which has been the perfect addition to our scripted original slate,” Mark Greenberg, president and CEO of the channel, says in a statement. “‘Get Shorty’ is our most successful original scripted series to date and continues to deliver phenomenal performances. We are thrilled to be working again with MGM Television, [creator] Davey Holmes, Chris O’Dowd, Ray Romano and the ‘Get Shorty’ team on a second season.”

Just how successful, we don’t know. Epix, which has only about 10.5 million subscribers (vs. 30 million-plus for other premium services like HBO and Showtime), isn’t rated by Nielsen.

“Get Shorty” is the third original scripted series from Epix; the first two, “Graves” and “Berlin Station,” have also been picked up for second seasons and are due to return in October.

Season 2 of “Get Shorty” will run for 10 episodes and air sometime in 2018.
