In what will surely be remembered as Bloody Thursday at ABC, The Muppets and Galavant have become the latest major series to be dropped.

The adult-themed primetime spinoff for Miss Piggy, Kermit the Frog and the rest of your favourite Henson creations will not get a second season, the network decided on May 12.

The Muppets debuted with much fanfare last fall, as stars across ABC's biggest primetime shows starred with Fozzie Bear, Beaker and Pepe in comedic TV spots.

The premise of the series was a 30 Rock-style workplace comedy, with Kermit as the harried producer of his demanding ex-girlfriend's chatshow Up Late with Miss Piggy.

However, the show earned tepid reviews and ratings quickly plummeted after the premiere earned a respectable 9 million viewers.

Also getting the sack from ABC was Galavant, the medieval comedy starring Joshua Sasse as an effortlessly charming but down-on-his-luck knight.

Galavant's fate was all but sealed earlier in the day when Sasse's CW pilot No Tomorrow was picked up for the fall.

It was bad news all around on Thursday, as ABC cancelled several of its most prominent primetime shows including Castle, Agent Carter and Nashville.
