There's a new girl in town on New Girl - and she's quite a famous one.
Megan Fox is joining the Fox sitcom for its fifth season next year while star Zooey Deschanel is on maternity leave following the birth of her first child last month.
The Transformers and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles actress will appear in the sixth episode onwards, scheduled to premiere in January.
While Deschanel's Jess is away on jury duty, Fox's character Reagan - a pharmaceutical sales rep - will rent out Jess's room.
New Girl executive producer Liz Meriwether joked in a statement: "It's insane to me that such a gorgeous person can be so funny, but I guess we just all have to accept it.
"I've been a fan of her comedic skills since This is 40, and I'm so excited to have her on the show. We had Megan in mind when we wrote this part – she's the perfect person to come in and shake these guys up."
Fox's last major TV role was ABC sitcom Hope & Faith from 2004 to 2006.
