'Eastbound & Down' cancelled by HBO

HBO has announced that Eastbound & Down will end after its upcoming fourth season.



Danny McBride's baseball comedy will air its eight-episode fourth run from September 29.

Eastbound & Down stars McBride as ex-major league pitcher Kenny Powers, who has to head back to his North Carolina hometown, and gets a job as a sports teacher.

The third season ended with Powers making it back to the major league, before faking his death to reunite with April, the mother of his child.

The comedy was originally meant to come to an end after its third season.

However, McBride described the fourth and final season as a kind of "epilogue" to the series back in July last year.
