ABC abruptly canceled “Roseanne” Tuesday, a few hours after star Roseanne Barr sent what the network called a “repugnant” tweet about a former White House adviser to President Obama

“Roseanne’s Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show,” reads a statement from ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey.

The cancellation ends the revival of “Roseanne” after one nine-episode season that was the highest-rated entertainment show of the 2017-18 TV season.

In a tweet early Tuesday she later deleted, Barr made a racist comment about former White House adviser Valerie Jarret, who is black and was born in Iran. “Muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj,” she wrote.

Barr later apologized, writing she was “truly sorry for making a bad joke about her politics and her looks.”

Barr’s “Roseanne” co-star Sara Gilbert (who was also an executive producer of the revival) called Barr’s comments “abhorrent” and wrote they “do not reflect the beliefs of our cast and crew or anyone associated with our show.” Wanda Sykes, a consulting producer on the show last season, said she would not return.

“Roseanne’s” premiere in March was the second highest-rated non-sports show of the season, behind only the post-Super Bowl episode of “This Is Us.” Though it cooled after a couple weeks, the show still ended 2017-18 as the No. entertainment show among adults 18-49 with a 3.3 rating (live +same-day). It ranked second to “The Big Bang Theory” in total viewers among non-sports shows.

ABC had renewed the show shortly after the huge premiere, and it was set to anchor the network’s Tuesday lineup again in the fall. What ABC will put in the leadoff spot on Tuesdays remains to be seen.
