'Resident Evil: Afterlife' tops US box office

Resident Evil: Afterlife has debuted at the top of the US box office.



The sequel, starring Milla Jovovich, earned $27 million over the weekend.

Takers moved one spot up to two with $6 million, followed by The American and Machete.

Drew Barrymore's rom-com Going The Distance remains in fifth place with $3.8 million, while The Last Exorcism drops to number seven with $3.4 million.

Finally, Eat Pray Love, starring Julia Roberts, slips to the tenth spot with $2 million.
