Terry Gilliam's The Man Who Killed Don Quixote has collapsed again, reports Variety.

Gilliam admitted that he is seeking new financing for the long-delayed project, although stars Robert Duvall and Ewan McGregor are still attached.

"The financing collapsed about a month and a half ago," the director said at the Deauville American Film Festival. "I shouldn't be here. The plan was to be shooting Quixote right now."

He continued: "Robert Duvall is Quixote, Ewan McGregor is also there, and we are looking for new financing right now."

The movie centres on an advertising executive who moves back and forth in time between the 21st and 17th century, where he is mistaken for Sancho Panza by Don Quixote.

Gilliam started filming The Man Who Killed Don Quixote in 2000 with Johnny Depp in the lead role, but the project was shut down when star Jean Rochefort suffered a herniated disc and flash floods in Spain destroyed sets and equipment.

That attempt at making the 17th century tale was captured in 2002 documentary Lost In La Mancha.
