That's more than Rogue One took its first weekend out

Disney has once again delivered in spreading magical joy and has been rewarded with a massive opening weekend for the live-action remake, raking in a huge $170 million - which is more than Rogue One: A Star Wars Story took in its first weekend out, just by the by.

The film has already managed to take a record from Hugh Jackman's Logan, which gained the biggest opening of the year so far with $85.3 million in its debut week earlier this month.

According to Collider, Beauty and the Beast is currently sitting in seventh place as the biggest domestic opening of all time, as well as becoming the biggest opening for a PG-rated movie EVER.

In fact, the film is so popular, it's even outsold the rest of this week's top 10 put together.

Elsewhere in the top 10, Dan Stevens' beast pushed a beast of a different sort into the number two position, with Kong: Skull Island taking $28.9 million this week and losing its place at the top of the chart.

Logan dropped to third, taking just $17.5 million for a US domestic total of $184 million, while Jordan Peele's acclaimed horror Get Out brought in another $13.2 million in its fourth week out to end the week in fourth place.

Rounding out the top 5 is Christian drama The Shack which took $6.1 million, while The LEGO Batman Movie took another $4.7 million to take its total box office takings up to $167 million at number 6.

The only other new entry to the top 10 this week was The Belko Experiment, sitting at number seven, with the eighth spot saved for Hidden Figures, which has now raked in a total of $165 million.

John Wick: Chapter Two took $1.2 million in ninth place, while closing out the top 10 this week is YA drama Before I Fall, after earning $1 million this week.
